He had recently attended our 5K Running & Reading Challenge at York University.   He noticed a student, who was most likely in grade 5, taking on what he called a “leadership role.”  At first he smiled to himself thinking that the child was very young to assume such a role, and didn’t take him seriously.   But something caught his attention.  He overheard a younger child mention that he was very nervous and scared about the possibility of not finishing the run.   The older student turned to him and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll be here for you. We can do it together.”  Looking into that grade 5 student’s eyes, Steven recognized some of himself.   This same self, through support from his coaches at the Running & Reading Club, had matured into a confident young man, sharing his story to a room of over 100 people.

Steven credits the Start2Finish Running & Reading Club for teaching him that dedication, integrity and hard work pave the pathway to success.
